CNN today announced that current CBS White House Correspondent John Roberts will be joining the cable news network as a Senior National Correspondent on February 20th.In a letter to CBS friends and colleagues this morning, Roberts wrote: For nearly 14 years at the network, and two years at our Miami station, I have been a part of CBS News, and it a huge part of me.Unending days and nights in the field or in the studio, covering some of this generation's most important stories brought out the best in all of you.It has been an amazing ride - and it is my honor to have shared it with such an extraordinarily talented and dedicated group of individuals. At the time, CNN was testing a concept that would include personalities with dueling political ideologies and opinions — though it appears that concept was earmarked for primetime in the form of "Parker and Spitzer." Here’s Jautz’s full memo (via Mediaite): TO: CNN Staff FROM: Ken Jautz DATE: December 14, 2010 I want to share some news regarding American Morning, both in terms of personnel and content of the show.First, we are announcing today that John Roberts will be leaving the morning show by the end of the year, and we are discussing an Atlanta-based reporting role for him.
When I was a wide-eyed kid, learning the ropes at a 5 thousand watt radio station in the middle of nowhere, never in my most elaborate dreams did I imagine I would become a member of the CBS family."I’ve asked for the show to be more upbeat and faster-paced and for us to look carefully at the kinds of stories we’re covering during that daypart," Jautz wrote in the memo."We’ve already started in this direction — you may have noticed fewer long packages and a broader selection of stories and some changes to the set and look of the show — and we’ll be continuing down this path." In March, The Wrap reported that CNN was developing a morning show pilot, with a format closer to MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” and “Fox & Friends” than anything it had ever done.He and Christopher Ward appeared as the first on-air personalities when the network launched in 1984.CNN anchor John Roberts is joining Fox News as a national correspondent.
